A Dynamic Transformation

In our most ambitious project this season, our crew carved into the hillside to create a gorgeous patio and retaining wall for a family in East Aurora. With the extensive rainfalls we experienced this summer, these customer found their basement more dry than ever following our comprehensive drainage installation. These customers will be enjoying this patio year round, and the 650 square foot patio will be a real hit for family reunions and parties!

Stumped For A Clever Solution

After losing a beautiful old-growth elm tree, these customers wanted a creative solution to incorporate the leftover tree stump into their gardens. Not only did our crew level the stump and painstakingly carved the hole for the plantings, but we also incorporated a planting scheme which will have cascading ground-covers floating over the edge of the stump. Need a creative solution??? Think Mongoose.

That yard is not suitable for toddlers

The new owners of this home on Auburn St. in Buffalo, the proud parents of their first child, realized that kids need a safe place to play. I'd say that a fresh sod lawn beats pricker bushes any day!

Trashy to Classy

After years of debating, this customer finally decided to clean-up the area where she kept her trash cans. Now, she entertains on a new flagstone patio, and her neighbors have a much nicer view!

More Before and Afters

This beautiful Mansion on Summer St. in Buffalo finally was planted with perennial flowers, trees, and shrubs. Amazing how colorful plantings can complete the look!

Simple is Better

BEFORE:

This project had our team clear the slate and update the landscaping to fit our customer's home. The overgrown shrubs in front of the home had effectively blocked the home from view and distracted passersby from admiring this house and its classic Buffalo architecture.

AFTER:

The change? Add a beautiful birch tree and a few modest shrubs with a new sod lawn and transform the look in 2 days! What a great way to add an impressive look for your home.

These creative homeowner will be adding window boxes, adding yet another dimension to their custom landscape.

Clean-up Fund-raiser Sponsored by Mongoose Landscaping

Our latest customer won a spring clean-up as part of a fund-raiser for the Park School in Williamsville. We are very proud to support education in our community, as our Director of Operations is a NYS Certified teacher in both Elementary and Special education.

In this job, our crew was able to clear the canvas of leaves and other debris without losing the feeling of a wild garden set amongst the forest. Why spring clean when nature will do it for you??? Well, nature will get around to breaking down those leaves and twigs eventually, but in the meantime, by clearing the canvas, you make it easier for wild flowers, groundcovers and even tree seedlings to take root and flourish. Got a spring clean-up need? Call the guys at Mongoose!

Spring is Springing...Finally

Who doesn't miss snow and ice storms? We don't!!! With Western New York's spring season finally coming into bloom, it is a great time to get those rakes, blowers and clippers out to get a jump on your gardens and lawn. Did you know that early spring - like right now - is a great time to clean up those stubborn leaves which were left behind in your shrubs and groundcovers? It's also much easier to give a light roto-tilling to larger garden beds before the perennials poke up through the soil. This results in a richer soil base for the summer perennials to flourish in while giving your gardens the fresh look of aerated mulch. Do it yourself or call us for a free quote anytime.

Stay tuned for the after pic!!!

Serious Fun

I took this picture with my phone the other morning... that is Matt Agnello in the Bobcat cleaning up the driveway after the somewhat over-hyped storm this weekend.

When there is a lot of snow.. cruising around, sitting in the Bobcat's heated cab... is just awesome. This is a job we all fight to get!

Out of the office!

That's right. Mongoose is taking a few days off from creating ridiculously brilliant landscaping solutions.

I know.. I know.. everyone is probably tossing their arms up in utter dismay.. But, wait!

Jon, Matt and I are going to Louisville, KY to spend three days of learning the newest products, trends and techniques at the national Green Industry Conference. I am pumped.

Jon will focus his time on hardscape design.. Matt will be test driving the most effective and efficient new equipment.. and me.. I know i will make time to visit the Wild Turkey distillery. : )

In a few days I will share with everyone what we learned… and what new benefits we’ll bring back for our clients! Stay tuned!

Winterizing Tip: Care for Annual Beds

  1. Remove annual plantings from the garden bed. This is important because the remains of annuals left in the bed have the potential to invite disease for next season.
  2. Till the soil. Loosening the soil in the fall makes the task of re-loosening the soil in the spring much easier. Garden beds should be tilled both in the spring and fall.
  3. Cover with mulch. Providing a thin layer of mulch will inhibit weed growth before snowfall. Ideally it will decompose and be promptly tilled into the soil next spring.
Fall is also the ideal time to check the pH balance of your soil. Adjusting soil conditions requires planning ahead and patience. For example, if you need to add lime – it takes months to have an affect. If you added lime in the spring, the effects would not be realized in your soil in time for that seasons plantings. I will have a post on how to check the pH balance of your soil.. maybe later this week?
